Tubing 2004
Hi Guys!!
Time to start planning for the tubing trip June 18-20.
It will cost between $16-$20. We leave from the church Friday afternoon
at 4 and return around Sunday noon.
We plan the trip at our regular meeting Tuesday, June 15. That's
when you Scouts decide the menu and duty roster. You must attend this
meeting if you want to go. At this meeting you have to pay for the
trip, with money or take it out of your Scout account.
You can plan on packing for a regular, warm-weather campout. Suggested
gear is on the Troop website or Scout Handbook. Don't forget your
sunscreen and water gear.
We follow our Troop policies. That means we travel as a group in Scout
uniform. Don't pack soft drinks, junk food, electronic gear, etc. All
of the policies are at the Troop website http://www.oconeetroop149.org/
We will camp at Vogle State Park. The elevation there is around 3,000
feet, so the temperature will be a little cooler than in Athens.
Some of you Scouts are advancing to the Tenderfoot rank. If you are one
of those guys, have your gear packed like it says in the Scout Handbook.
An adult leader can sign you off in your Scout Handbook.
Saturday morning we will hike the Bear Hair Gap trail in the park. This is
an easy 3 mile loop trail. We can adjust this if any Scouts need a 5
mile hike for advancement. After lunch we will drive to Helen and go
tubing the whole afternoon.
On Sunday morning we will have breakfast, a church service and we should
be back at 12 noon.
It will be a lot of fun in a beautiful part of our state.
Yours in Scouting
Warren K
