Friday-Saturday, February 17-18, 2012 @ Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, NC
The trip plans will be the same as the past few years where we stay at a church on Fri. night, ski all day at Wolf Ridge on Sat., and travel home Sat. night.
All scouts are welcome, first-timers and experienced skiers. Parents are welcome to ski as well, but we also need drivers and a few adults to hang out in the lodge to supervise any scouts that may be worn out or wet and cold.
Perhaps, the most difficult part may be rounding up "ski gear." To have the most enjoyable experience, skiers will need weather/waterproof snow pants, coat, and gloves, a stocking hat and goggles. We will talk about additional gear at a later time. My motto is "If you crash a lot, then you learn a lot," so expect to spend some time in the snow.
If you plan to ski you will receive a lift ticket, rentals, a helmet, and a lunch ticket for Sat. However, if you have your own skis and/or helmet, let me know and you will receive a discount.
Snowboarding is an option for scouts and parents who have experience with snowboarding. Snowboard rentals are more expensive and will increase your cost. I would highly recommend, and may enforce, that beginners ski instead of snowboard.
The cost of the trip will be $110 per person, $70 alone goes towards lift tickets and rentals. The total cost is more expensive this year than last year because we are skiing on a holiday weekend so Wolf Ridge is not offering any additional discounts.
Parents, if you choose to attend but do not want to ski then your price will be significantly less. Drivers will also receive a portion of their gas money refunded because of the long trip.
Meals will be pretty easy with a sack dinner Fri. night, a quick breakfast Sat. morning, lunch on the hill, and dinner at Ryan's on the way home.
Dr. Dix and Mr. Roth will also be teaching the Snow Sports M/B during this trip. The resort is offering a free ski lesson for the beginners in our group. However, if you are a beginner do not expect to complete the M/B requirements this weekend. It will take a few days, maybe years, on the slopes to be comfortable on the hill to complete the badge. The badge is not difficult to complete, but you do need to show a lot of control, which takes time. Dr. Dix and I may take a group of experienced skiers out and work with them to try to complete the badge that weekend.
Please email Mr. Roth to confirm your reservation and if any parents are going as well. A final and definitive count is needed by Jan. 15th. Also let us know of your experience on the slopes: beginner or how many times or years you have been skiing.
