Sapelo Island trip 2004
Sapelo Island State Park web site

We will meet promptly at 9:00 AM on Friday January 2nd and return around 11:00 PM on Sunday January 4th. The Scouts do not have school on Monday the 5th, so we hope the late return will not cause too many problems.

Our planning meeting will be on Tuesday January 30th at 7:00 PM. Please attend if you are in town. We will be planning patrols, meals, tenting arrangements, and all of the other details. If you cannot attend, please call Shawn T for further information. You can call with any questions as well.

Packing for the trip
We will be traveling in full Scout uniform. This is Troop policy and will be enforced. Don't forget to wear your uniform.

As usual, weather plays a large role in what you pack. The temperatures have been dropping into the upper 30's at night and days have been running in the mid 60's. Bring fleece for the cold nights. Rain could be a possibility, so be sure to pack rain gear.

We will be staying at the pioneer campground just behind the dunes at Cabretta beach. The campground is quite nice and has both a fire ring and grill. We will be supplied firewood for our stay. The campground also has a "comfort station" with running water and flush toilets. A bus will pick us up at the ferry and transport us to the campground, so you don't need a backpack; a duffle will do as well.

Restricted Items
There are some restrictions on what we can and can't carry:
* One backpack or duffle per person
* NO liquid fuels on the ferry (e.g., Coleman fuel or "white gas". This is due to U.S. Coast Guard regulations). Propane is fine and we will be carrying propane stoves.
* No bicycles, lawn chairs, large folding chairs, or tree stands (we will not be doing any hunting)

Recommended items
This is not an exhaustive list - they are just suggestions. Use your best judgment for packing.
