Trek Dates:

June 16-29, 2010, as part of the Northeast Georgia Council contingent!!


Misc information:

(1) Training: All adults going on the trek should provide evidence to Dr. Dick A. of completion of Youth Protection Training, Severe Weather Training (both of those are online at olc.scouting.org), and any current medical or CPR certification. Art M. will also be offering CPR certification and we will be asking ALL participants to have this current before going.

(2) Medical: Philmont has specific Philmont medical forms which must be used (the regular BSA annual medical form is not sufficient). We expect to receive these during January. Tips for filling them out. Turn in to Dr. Dick A. the medical forms, including verification of tetanus shots, blood pressure, and any orthopedic concerns.

Also, Scouts and adults should review the information on height/weight, blood pressure and medical conditions, and the general "risk advisory".

(3) Hiking Itinerary: Our two crews (617-M1& M2) will hike Itinerary #17 at Philmont. This is a "rugged" hike of 65 miles.

The meals that are covered are from Lunch on June 16 - Lunch on June 29. Jackets and t-shirts will arrive just prior to your departure.
Crews will want to take shuttle buses between Philmont and Cimarron for a post trek meal. Last time there was a $1.00/person fee each way that is not included in the Council fees. Food in Cimarron is also not included.

Payment Schedule:
$100 is due to the Troop for gear purchases, pre-trek hike food and expenses, etc.
$1440 is due to the Northeast Georgia Council based on the following schedule. These funds should be routed through our Troop Treasurer, who will send them as a group to the Council:

There is also an additional $72.50 due to the Council by June 1.

Cancellation Policy:
Notice- All participants must be able to pass Philmont's health and weight requirements as stated in the 2010 Philmont Health and Medical Record and meet the Troop's pretrek hike requirement. Refunds are not given to individuals who do not meet these requirements.

Please review the height/weight requirements with each participant. These requirements will be strictly enforced by Philmont Scout Ranch for both youth and adults.

Pretrek Participation requirements: All participants (youth and adults) must attend at least 80% (4 out of 5) of these pre-Philmont hikes. These hikes provide the opportunity for us to work together as a crew, to learn the Philmont way of hiking and camping, to get into shape, and to test our gear. It is highly recommended that all crew members participate in every hike.

  7. May 28-29, 2010: For those who will have missed more than one hike (and any other crew member interested) there will be a make up hike on Friday – Saturday the 28th and 29th of May. We are currently planning to meet at FPC at noon Friday and do a short hike that day and finish with a longer hike on Saturday. Further arrangements depend on how many hikers participate.
