Cherokee District Klondike Derby 2012
Friday-Sunday, January 20-22, 2012 @ Scoutland, Gainesville, GA

Just when you thought January would be a quiet respite from the hustle, bustle and celebrations of Christmas, along comes what could be one of the most adventurous weekends of the scouting year!

Plans are underway for the Cherokee District's annual Klondike Derby, and Troop 149 & Webelo II's (P-149) are forming up patrols to enter the great Klondike Derby. This is how it works:

Like the great Iditarod Dog Sled Races held in Alaska each year, our Troop Patrols will build a sled, gather all necessary equipment, strap it all to that sled (equipment includes things like fire making tools, a pouch for carrying gold nuggets and lots of rope), and mush off to towns like Kodiak, Sitka and Dead Horse.

With our intrepid scouts doing the work of the sled dogs, each Patrol will race to a city where they will compete in a challenge, whether that challenge is to flip flapjacks over a 5 foot rope(!) or do a good turn and help transport a container of "nitroglycerin" (used to blast gold mines) to a safe location - without spilling a drop!

So get ready to pitch your "igloo," and have a winter time adventure!

What you NEED to know (applies to all Webelos II scouts too!):
